Carrizo Plain:
Intro to Birding Camping Trip
In collaboration with MAPAS
As part of our efforts to engage with a more diverse community and make birding more inclusive, we reached out to our friends at another great UCSB organization called Making Adventures Possible for all Students or MAPAS. We proposed a collaborative overnight camping trip to what is sometimes referred to as “California’s Serengeti,” the Carrizo Plain.
Celine Pun, MAPAS’s Social Media Coordinator, was thrilled about the idea and she worked closely with our own Media Chair, Chris Puga, to organize a fun and exciting event that would help introduce MAPAS members to the wonderful world of birding in a truly unique environment.
The trip was a great success! The Goleta Coast Audubon members that attended the trip served as amazing teachers and guides for our MAPAS friends and overall we enjoyed building community with others as well as sharing our knowledge and love for birds.
A special thanks to Celine and Chris for making this trip possible for our members and to our president Conor McMahon, and GCAS members Max Roberts and Sophie Cameron for your wonderful instruction on birds, wildlife, and nature.
